How facials work
Cleansed skin is exfoliated to loosen dull surface cells, congestion is softened with warmth and cleared where that is useful, and the skin is finished with the serum, moisturiser and sun protection it needs. The order is settled, the content is not.
Skin renews on roughly a monthly cycle, which is why facials are usually spaced about four weeks apart while you are working on something specific, then stretched out once your skin is where you want it.

Your first appointment
The first visit starts with a conversation rather than a treatment. You will be asked what you are using at home, what you are taking, and whether anything has reacted before. Your skin is then looked at under a lamp, and the treatment is decided from that. If a patch test is needed it is done then, and the facial is booked after it.

Do people really travel from Royston?
Yes. It is roughly 11.5 miles – north on the A1198, then follow signs for Cambourne, then Upper Cambourne. Most clients are here in about 21 minutes. Times and distances are approximate.

The A1198 is quiet for most of the day. It is the least congested road in and rarely queues.
How often should I have a facial?
Skin turns over on roughly a monthly cycle, so monthly is the usual rhythm while you are working on something specific. Once your skin is where you want it, every couple of months holds it there.
Will my skin break out afterwards?
It can, particularly after a first facial on congested skin, because clearing blockages brings some of them to the surface. It normally settles within a few days.
Can I wear makeup straight afterwards?
You can, but it is better not to for the rest of the day. Skin is warm and slightly more permeable after a facial, and leaving it alone gets you more out of the appointment.
Do I need a patch test?
For a standard facial, usually not. If anything active is going to be used, or you have reacted to products before, a patch test is arranged first.
